From the Founder
I've practiced California employment law for almost 13 years and law in general for nearly 19. I've been recognized as a California Super Lawyer since 2020. Over my career, I've represented both employees and employers - in litigation, in mediation, and in every stage in between.
And I kept seeing the same thing: employees afraid to speak up because lawyers cost too much and agencies take too long. Employers spending six figures defending claims that could have been resolved for a fraction of the cost with one honest conversation. The system churning through cases that didn't need a courtroom - wasting everyone's time, money, and energy.
I built Wiser Workplace because I'm tired of watching both sides lose. Most employment disputes aren't complex legal puzzles. They're communication breakdowns that escalate because there's no safe, private, professional way to resolve them early. California's mediation confidentiality laws give us the legal framework to fix that - a space where both sides can talk candidly without anything being used against them.
This isn't a tech company pretending to understand employment law. This is an employment lawyer who built the platform that should have existed years ago.
Important: Lawrence Freiman is the founder and owner of Wiser Workplace. His role as founder does not create an attorney-client relationship with any user of this platform. Wiser Workplace does not provide legal advice, legal representation, or legal services. The platform facilitates mediation through independent, neutral mediators. Why We Built This
A better path for resolving workplace disputes.
The Problem
Millions of California workers face workplace issues - discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage theft, and more - but most do nothing about it.
Why? Because the traditional paths are broken:
- Lawyers are expensive. A single employment attorney consultation can cost $300 - $500/hour.
- Government agency processes take time. Formal complaints can take many months or years before resolution.
- Litigation is brutal. Court battles destroy relationships and drain resources on both sides.
- Many people suffer in silence because they don't know where to turn.
Our Solution
A resolution platform built on California's mediation privilege - where disputes are resolved confidentially, affordably, and quickly.
Wiser Workplace operates under California's mediation confidentiality laws, which create a special legal status for mediation communications. What you say during mediation is legally protected and generally cannot be used against you in court, with limited exceptions.
This means:
- Employees get answers without bankruptcy. Free to use, with real resolutions in weeks.
- Employers avoid court. Structured resolution for a fraction of litigation costs.
- Both sides stay protected. Mediation confidentiality = no liability exposure.
- Relationships survive. When disputes don't end in court, people can move forward.
*Important: All figures are estimates based on publicly available industry data and represent general litigation and mediation trends, not Wiser Workplace-specific outcomes or guarantees. Actual costs and timelines may vary significantly by case, jurisdiction, complexity, and other factors. This is not legal or financial advice.
Our Mission
Make workplace resolution accessible to every California worker - regardless of income, language, or legal knowledge.
